Ron Phillips and his lovely wife Sylvia have recently moved to Blakely from Winterhaven, FL.  Ron brings with him many years of faithfully serving our Lord in worship music.  He welcomes all who wish to serve the Lord with song to join any of our three choirs.

“O magnify the LORD with me, and
let us exalt His name together.”
Psalm 34:3

The last month of the year always seems to go the fastest, especially when you’re in music ministry and you have several musical events to plan.  We had wonderful presentations by both the children’s and adults’ music ministries.  We sincerely appreciate their faithful participation  and their excellent contribution to ministry.  It’s hard to believe that those events are now behind us, but we look forward, with as much eager anticipation, to Easter and spring musical events.

Happy New Year!  We hope you and your family had a blessed Christmas, and that you are expecting great things in the new year.  If you get this newsletter before the 1st, remember that our New Year’s Worship

Service is at 10:30am.  There will be no Sunday School or evening worship service on that day.  We’re going to take a look back, a look around and a look ahead as we see what God has in store for First Baptist of Blakely, Georgia.

According to Christian Copyright Licensing International (CCLI) Sunday, January 8 is “National Choir

Appreciation Sunday.”  There are more than 32.5 million choir members in churches across America, and

collectively they volunteer 8.5 billion hours every year to leading their congregations in musical worship.   Our choir members are dedicated, diligent servants of Christ who enjoy using their musical gifts to worship Him.  As you are reading this, why don’t you call or write several of them and express your personal

appreciation for their ministry?

On Sunday evening, January 15, I would like to present a piano concert, celebrating 50 years of arranging hymns for piano solo, and updating the church on the spring musical mission with the Georgia Baptist Sons of Jubal to two countries that are largely closed to the Gospel of Christ.  I can’t reveal them publicly here, but I will give as many details as possible on that night.  The offering that evening will help with the expenses of the trip.

On Sunday evening, January 29, we will have another special music worship service.  In October we took

requests for favorite hymns and sang 35 hymns.  This month I would like for you to think of your favorite Gospel chorus, Scripture or worship chorus.  There have been many written and sung over the last 100 years, so reflect on those that have really ministered to you.

May God bless you richly in the new year, and may 2012 be the best ever for First Baptist!

May God bless you richly,

Pastor Ron
